Dr.
Copeland, a founding member in Northern
Rockies Neurosurgeons, received his Doctor
of Medicine degree from the University
of Missouri Medical School in 1989. In 1990, he completed his Internship in General Surgery
at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, followed by a Residency
in Neurosurgery there. He also received the first of his numerous medical
board certifications that same year.
Dr. Copeland is perhaps
best known and admired for his significant involvement in developing
the Free-Electron
Laser (FEL) for medical applications, commonly known
as the "Scalpel
of Light." This
revolutionary instrument enables neurosurgeons to remove tumors with
unmatched precision and speed while minimizing potential damage to surrounding
tissue.
Dr. Copeland is one of the pioneering physicians who jointly hold the
patent on the ideal wavelength of this miraculous device, and he has
co-written numerous publications and lectures on the technology.
Along
with fellow NRN physician, Dr.
Yves Meyer and Dr.
Robert Replogle, Dr.
Copeland is the only neurosurgeon at St.
Vincent Healthcare in Billings, MT to
perform cerebral aneurysm surgeries,
and he's one of the few neurosurgeons in
Montana to perform
artificial
disc replacement surgeries (Dr. Meyer being another).
In addition to his neurosurgical
work at St. Vincent, Dr. Copeland serves as a
visiting neurosurgeon at outreach clinics in Miles
City, MT, as well
as in Powell and Worland,
WY. His availability for consultations brings unsurpassed
knowledge and experience to people with brain and spine disorders in
those areas.
